AI Systems and Automation Engineer (AI)

Location: Munich, Bavaria, Germany; hybrid work with flexibility to work from home or abroad.

What you will do

• Transform manual, spreadsheet-based, and brittle low-code workflows into resilient, version-controlled production web services with APIs, databases, authentication, and CI/CD.
• Build and operate customer-facing and internal tools, including onboarding portals, approval engines, KYC and document verification pipelines, and administrative services.
• Design LLM-powered services, multi-step agentic workflows, and MCP servers connecting language models with internal APIs, SaaS tools, and databases.
• Use AI coding agents to deliver backend and full-stack systems and promote reusable agentic engineering practices across the engineering team.
• Own services from stakeholder discovery and architecture through testing, containerized deployment, monitoring, and iteration.

Requirements

• 3–5+ years of professional experience building, testing, and operating production backend or full-stack web services.
• Strong proficiency in Java, Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or Go.
• Daily experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot, with the judgment to review, validate, secure, and maintain generated code.
• Hands-on experience integrating major LLM APIs, including Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, or Google Gemini, with structured outputs, function/tool calling, RAG, evaluation frameworks, and agent protocols such as MCP.
• Strong knowledge of REST APIs, webhooks, relational databases and SQL/PostgreSQL, data modeling, event-driven architecture, Docker, Linux, and CI/CD on AWS or GCP.
• Ability to build functional web interfaces or internal and customer portals using React, Next.js, or modern UI frameworks.
• Ability to distinguish appropriate LLM-agent use cases from deterministic implementations and build maintainable production services.
• Ability to work directly with engineering, operations, and customer-facing stakeholders to turn operational bottlenecks into software solutions.
• Excellent written and spoken English required.

Nice to have

• Experience building developer productivity tools, CLI utilities, Slack apps, or internal developer portals.
• Familiarity with Temporal, n8n, Kafka, or message queues.
• Exposure to B2B SaaS, FinTech, EnergyTech, or regulated customer onboarding and approval workflows.
