Space Surveillance and Tracking Engineering Team Lead (Aerospace)

Location: Hybrid role in Tres Cantos, Madrid, Spain; includes 8 weeks per year of teleworking outside the usual geographical area.

What you will do

• Lead and coordinate software engineers developing and maintaining microservices-based solutions.
• Oversee the integration of Space Surveillance and Tracking algorithms and ensure alignment with system requirements.
• Manage Agile software development, including sprint planning, prioritization, progress tracking, and continuous improvement.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary work with aerospace, software, systems, and DevOps engineers.
• Supervise system integration, validation, testing, technical support, troubleshooting, and operational issue resolution.
• Improve performance, scalability, maintainability, software quality, and engineering practices while mentoring team members.

Requirements

• Solid backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot, including microservices architectures and distributed systems.
• Experience leading or coordinating software development teams in Agile environments, including Scrum or Kanban, sprint planning, task prioritization, and delivery tracking.
• Experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs with OpenAPI or Swagger, including OAuth2 and JWT security mechanisms.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, including data modeling and query optimization.
• Experience with Docker, containerized environments, CI/CD pipelines, and Git.
• Knowledge of software engineering best practices, including code reviews, automated testing, clean code, and continuous improvement.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide technical guidance and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with event-driven architectures such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Background in aerospace, space systems, or scientific software.
• Experience handling large-scale data processing.
