Senior Software Developer (Java Backend)

Location: Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid, Spain; full-time, permanent position.

What you will do

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services and applications using Java, Spring Boot and MongoDB.
• Own technical solutions from design and implementation through deployment, monitoring and continuous improvement.
• Design APIs and integrations between applications, services and systems.
• Contribute to architecture, engineering standards, code reviews, automated testing, performance optimisation, CI/CD and system reliability.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, engineers and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Mentor developers, share knowledge and explore AI-assisted development tools.

Requirements

• Extensive professional experience in backend software development, ideally with complex, distributed systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot and microservices architecture.
• Solid MongoDB experience, including database design, data modelling and performance optimisation.
• Experience designing, developing and integrating RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Understanding of software architecture, engineering best practices, automated testing and CI/CD processes.
• Experience working in Agile environments such as Scrum.
• Ability to take technical ownership, solve complex problems and contribute to technical decision-making.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, including work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Interest in mentoring, knowledge sharing and contributing to a high-performing engineering culture.
• Professional proficiency in English and Spanish.

Nice to have

• Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or GCP.
• Familiarity with Angular.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools or interest in AI agents across the software development lifecycle.
• Experience as a technical mentor, senior technical reference or informal team lead.
