Fleet and Transport Manager (Logistics)

Location: Preston, Lancashire, United Kingdom; full-time, onsite role at the Preston Service Centre.

What you will do

• Lead the day-to-day transport operation, maintaining service, safety, compliance and productivity standards.
• Manage and develop Driver Team Managers, more than 170 drivers and agency colleagues during peak periods.
• Oversee a temperature-controlled fleet of vans and LGVs and ensure products move safely, securely and compliantly throughout the delivery cycle.
• Manage transport budgets, labour costs, fleet utilisation, service levels and operational performance.
• Improve route efficiency, productivity and service delivery while leading continuous improvement and operational change initiatives.
• Build relationships with colleagues, customers and stakeholders across the wider network.

Requirements

• Experience leading transport or fleet operations in distribution, logistics, delivery or a similarly fast-paced operational environment.
• Strong people leadership skills, including experience managing and developing operational teams.
• Knowledge of transport legislation, fleet compliance, operator licence requirements and health and safety.
• Experience managing budgets, labour costs, service levels, KPIs and broader operational performance.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management and practical problem-solving skills, with confidence making decisions in a busy operational environment.
• CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification.
• Full UK driving licence required.

Nice to have

• Experience in temperature-controlled transport, healthcare, pharmaceuticals or another highly regulated environment.
• Knowledge of route optimisation, sustainability initiatives, large-scale change programmes or multi-site transport operations.
