Software Engineering - Principal (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, California

Salary: $237,700–$344,700 annual base salary in select San Francisco and New York City metropolitan areas; bonus, equity, and benefits are excluded.

What you will do

• Develop backend applications for Salesforce and hirify.global cloud products.
• Design, implement, and tune robust APIs and API framework features for scalable multi-tenant environments.
• Handle large cloud datasets and integrate internal and external systems across GCP, AWS, Alibaba, and/or Azure.
• Build and ship production-grade software using test-driven development, CI/CD, and modern engineering practices.
• Use AI development tools and advanced prompt engineering to produce secure, optimized, high-quality code.
• Design AI-agent systems, maintain shared system context, evaluate code quality and security, and participate in on-call support.

Requirements

• Related technical degree.
• 10+ years of backend software development experience.
• Deep knowledge of object-oriented programming languages including Java, C++, Go, C#, Ruby, Scala, Python, Node.js, or JavaScript.
• Broad knowledge of API-related web standards including REST, SOAP, XML, WSDL, HTTP, and JSON.
• Experience with Spring, gRPC, REST, and HTTP.
• Experience with Agile development methodology.
• Demonstrated AI-first engineering approach and experience using AI tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, Cursor, or equivalent in development workflows.
• Advanced prompt engineering skills, including writing precise structured prompts and maintaining system context for reliable, secure, production-ready AI outputs.
• Participation in the team on-call rotation to resolve complex issues and maintain highly available services.

Nice to have

• For Big Data roles: experience with Phoenix, HBase, MapReduce, Yarn, Kafka, Spark, Hive, Presto, or equivalent large-scale distributed systems on a modern containerized deployment stack.
