Sr. Principal Engineer (AI)

Location: District of Columbia, United States

Base salary: $305,000–$330,000 per year

What you will do

• Design and ship AI-native developer tooling, including context aggregation solutions, MCPs, CLIs, skills, sub-agents, and cloud agent solutions.
• Integrate AI tooling with hirify.global's codebases, services, and systems, and improve workflows for code generation, review, testing, documentation, refactoring, and incident management.
• Develop pre-review and triage tooling, automate mechanical and policy issues, and help define standards for reviewing AI-generated code.
• Build systems for AI cost optimization, model selection, and developer-velocity measurement.
• Own developer-tooling initiatives from scoping and system design through production adoption, partnering with platform, infrastructure, and application teams.
• Write specifications and documentation and drive technical discussions across teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including recent hands-on experience building with or on top of LLM-based tooling such as agents, MCP servers, or coding assistants.
• Direct experience integrating AI tools into development workflows beyond individual end-user adoption, including code review, testing, code generation, or documentation.
• Strong system design skills and experience owning tools or platforms end-to-end, from design through adoption.
• Experience designing and consuming APIs, webhooks, or other integration and message-based systems.
• Experience building developer tooling, internal platforms, CI/CD systems, or other software primarily used by engineers.
• Comfort operating with ambiguity and shaping practices for a new team.
• Pragmatic problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical obstacles.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including driving technical discussions with engineers and leaders across multiple teams.
