Frontend Engineer, Design Systems (React)

Location: Remote in the United States; remote means living 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from a Stripe office. Regular work is expected from home, with optional office attendance for meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events. Stripe does not cover relocation to a remote location.

Annual US base salary: $173,000–$259,600. Additional benefits may include equity, company bonus, 401(k), medical, dental and vision benefits, and wellness stipends.

What you will do

• Design and build polished, accessible, performant React components and patterns for stripe.com.
• Partner with designers and engineers on component behavior, APIs, responsive states, interaction details, and design-token architecture.
• Maintain design–code parity and component quality through documentation, accessibility and visual-regression testing, production validation, and in-context review.
• Help teams decide whether to compose existing capabilities, extend Helm, or keep implementations local, and lead upstreaming of reusable work.
• Improve guidance, examples, tooling, and collaboration so designers, engineers, content authors, and agents can discover and adopt Helm.

Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant frontend or design engineering experience building production web experiences or shared systems and tooling.
• Experience building and maintaining a production design system or shared component library through real-world use.
• Proficiency with React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS, including taking interactive, responsive work from design through production.
• Regular experience using AI-assisted development tools, with sound judgment in validating output and maintaining code, product, and security quality.
• Experience designing flexible component APIs, primitives, tokens, and composition models that preserve accessibility and maintainability.
• Strong visual and interaction-design judgment and communication skills for collaborating with experienced designers and engineers on ambiguous system-level tradeoffs.

Nice to have

• Experience building expressive, brand-forward web experiences balancing consistency with differentiated art direction.
• Familiarity with CMS-driven experiences, structured content, localization, or constraints of large global websites.
• Experience with Figma libraries, design tokens, Code Connect, component documentation, or visual-regression testing.
• Experience migrating consumers between design systems or evolving shared components while maintaining compatibility across production surfaces.
