Software Engineer (Next.js)

Location: New York City or San Francisco; remote-first team.

Salary: San Francisco base pay range of $196,000–$294,000; compensation outside San Francisco may be adjusted based on employee location, with equity and benefits included.

What you will do

• Design and implement core Next.js features from RFC through release.
• Build integrations between Next.js and Vercel platform and runtime infrastructure.
• Engage with the open-source community through issues, pull requests, RFCs, and discussions.
• Optimize performance across the server, browser, and edge.
• Track emerging web standards, including React Server Components, Partial Prerendering, and Web Streams.
• Contribute to developer tooling, documentation, and examples for Next.js users.

Requirements

• Strong experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, and React.
• Deep understanding of HTML, CSS, HTTP, rendering models, and caching.
• Experience building production-grade web applications or frameworks.
• Familiarity with build tools such as Webpack, Turbopack, Babel, SWC, or similar.
• Collaborative mindset and clear communication, especially in public and open-source work.
