Staff Software Engineer, Infrastructure Foundations (Kubernetes/Multi-Cloud)

Location: United States (Remote); remote in-country. Occasional travel may be required for onboarding and team gatherings.

Salary: $212,000–$278,250, $190,800–$250,425, or $169,600–$222,600, depending on geographic market and assessed level; equity offered.

What you will do

• Design the abstraction model unifying AWS, GCP, and Azure into one infrastructure platform.
• Own the end-to-end design and development of a significant multi-component system and coordinate engineers delivering its parts.
• Define declarative infrastructure models for Kubernetes workloads and supporting cloud resources, including versioning, drift visibility, and safe reconciliation.
• Design a deployment control plane for inventory, dependencies, rollout sequencing, approvals, and safe production changes.
• Build reliability into the platform through bounded blast radius, progressive rollouts, observability, load and failure testing, recovery, and incident learning.
• Set technical direction, lead design and code reviews, coach Senior engineers, support hiring, and collaborate with Traffic, Control Plane, Developer Productivity, Security, and service owners.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software development experience, including significant experience designing and operating distributed production infrastructure.
• Production infrastructure experience with at least two of AWS, GCP, and Azure, including building, operating, and scaling Kubernetes-based platforms.
• Deep Kubernetes knowledge covering scheduling, controllers and reconciliation, resource management, isolation, and upgrade safety.
• Experience designing and building a significant multi-component system and coordinating engineers through an infrastructure transition while production remained operational.
• Strong coding skills in Go or another systems language, with continued hands-on coding.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, including explaining complex systems, making tradeoffs explicit, and driving alignment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to design reusable multi-cloud abstractions, apply sound Kubernetes recovery judgment, balance technical and customer needs, and raise engineering standards through reviews, coaching, and technical writing.

Nice to have

• Experience building and operating infrastructure across all three providers, especially adding a new provider to an existing platform.
• Experience building Kubernetes controllers and operators, including Crossplane or AWS Controllers for Kubernetes.
• Upstream open-source contributions or maintainer experience in Kubernetes, CNCF, or similar infrastructure projects.
• Experience with deployment control planes, progressive delivery, dependency-aware rollouts, safe migrations, and lifecycle automation across large fleets.
• Experience building infrastructure services in Go and using hirify.global for durable workflow orchestration.
