Platform Engineering Lead (Cloud Infrastructure)

Location: Remote in Canada, with the option to work in person from the Toronto office

Salary: CAD 165,000–185,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead and grow the platform engineering team through 1:1s, career development, performance reviews, hiring, coaching, planning, retrospectives, and incident reviews.
• Set ranked priorities and build the platform roadmap with Product across reliability, security, tooling, customer environments, and product delivery.
• Own the platform’s technical direction through architecture decisions, design reviews, code reviews, implementation, and cross-team trade-offs.
• Improve developer productivity by measuring delivery performance and building fast, reliable CI, preview environments with genomic test data, progressive rollouts, and automated rollback.
• Manage infrastructure costs across GCP, AWS, and related tooling, including budgets, cost visibility, targets, vendors, and licensing.
• Own reliability and security, including SLOs, on-call, incident response, blameless reviews, access, secrets, CI, and SOC 2 audit evidence in Drata.

Requirements

• 8+ years in DevOps, site reliability, or platform engineering, including 3+ years managing engineers.
• Experience setting technical direction and priorities for a platform or infrastructure team and managing senior engineers.
• Production experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, and a CI system on GCP or AWS, with hands-on ability to review and contribute to the work.
• Direct accountability for a cloud budget, including demonstrated cost reductions and measurement of results.
• Experience improving developer productivity with metrics and automating repetitive operational work for a small team.
• Experience with SOC 2 or a comparable control framework and comfort working with health or genomic data under strict, audited access rules.
• Strong communication skills for explaining technical trade-offs and costs to non-technical leaders, plus comfort working across global time zones.
• Must be eligible to work in Canada.

Nice to have

• Concourse CI experience.
• Experience running many environments from one platform.
• Experience using AI and automation with guardrails for agent access.
• Experience building cost allocation or showback models or internal developer platforms.
• Familiarity with Java services built on Spring Boot, GA4GH standards, or WDL workflow engines.
