Platform Engineer (AWS/Cloud)

Location: Hybrid in Columbia, Maryland, United States; must work an average of 1–2 days per week at the Columbia, MD office.

Salary: $137,510–$185,000 annually.

What you will do

• Enhance, optimize, and increase the robustness of existing code bases as a systems integrator.
• Define, build, and manage virtual cloud infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Design and implement software architecture and platform capabilities from prototype through operational applications.
• Develop custom software components and integrate open-source code to solve complex big data and cloud problems.
• Identify and troubleshoot issues autonomously while working toward strategic goals set by platform architects.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required, and the candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance; clearance is not required on day one.
• 9+ years of Platform Engineering or Go software development experience with a related bachelor’s degree; or 7 years of relevant experience with a related master’s degree; or a high school diploma/equivalent and 13 years of relevant experience.
• Experience developing and deploying infrastructure in AWS.
• Experience with Kubernetes or a vendor Kubernetes distribution, Ansible, and storage layers such as Ceph, Rook, or Longhorn.
• Programming experience with Go.
• Strong understanding of Linux systems, hosts, networks, security, and applications, plus proficiency in Shell/Bash scripting.
• Excellent problem-solving, complex troubleshooting, oral communication, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment at the Columbia office 1–2 days per week and adapt to schedule changes.

Nice to have

• Experience with DISA’s Big Data Platform or other big data systems such as Cloudera Distribution of Hadoop, Hortonworks Data Platform, or MapR.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, including GitLab CI, Travis CI, or Jenkins.
• Understanding of agile software development methodologies and standard tools such as JIRA, Confluence, GitHub, or GitLab.
• Experience with Puppet, Ansible, Maven, or virtualization platforms such as oVirt, Proxmox, or VMware.
• DoD 8140/8570 IAT Level II compliance certifications may be required as directed by the customer.
