Global Head, R&D Program Management & Therapeutic Area Portfolio Operations (Biopharma)

Location: Hybrid, onsite three days per week, based in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA, or Maidenhead, UK.

What you will do

• Lead global development and regulatory project managers across complex R&D programs, New Product Development, and Life Cycle Management.
• Drive strategic and operational planning across the R&D portfolio, balancing innovation, quality, timelines, costs, and resources.
• Lead Therapeutic Area Portfolio & Operations, coordinating strategy, portfolio reviews, investment planning, due diligence, and cross-functional decision-making.
• Identify delivery risks, organizational bottlenecks, and structural challenges, driving issues through resolution and supporting critical milestones.
• Build project management capabilities, standards, methodologies, integrated plans, scenario planning, risk management, and continuous improvement practices.
• Lead and develop a global project management organization across multiple functions and geographies, coaching leaders and strengthening execution.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific, business, or related discipline required; a Master's degree, MBA, or equivalent is preferred.
• 12+ years of progressive experience in project management, program management, and/or portfolio management within R&D, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical industries.
• Experience leading complex, cross-functional R&D programs and global portfolios across multiple functions and geographies.
• Experience managing large-scale development programs, portfolio initiatives, and organizational priorities in a complex matrix environment.
• Strong understanding of pharmaceutical and biotechnology R&D processes, including drug development, clinical development, regulatory affairs, and Life Cycle Management.
• Expertise in strategic and operational planning, portfolio management, risk assessment, resource planning, and project execution.
• Experience with project and portfolio management methodologies, tools, and systems such as Microsoft Project, Planview, Smartsheet, or Jira.
• Exceptional communication, influencing, change leadership, and executive reporting skills, including translating complex data into actionable recommendations for senior leadership.
• Ability to influence senior leaders, navigate organizational complexity, resolve issues, drive decisions, and lead, coach, and develop high-performing global teams.
• Strong strategic thinking, business acumen, operational judgment, and ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels.
