Commodity Manager (Grid Technologies)

Location: Hybrid role based in Oakville, Ontario, Canada; travel up to 20% domestically and internationally to suppliers, factories, and project sites. The position is in a French-speaking environment and requires English fluency.

Base salary: CAD 87,000–124,000 per year.

What you will do

• Act as the primary procurement interface for assigned project equipment and collaborate with suppliers, engineering, project management, quality, logistics, and commissioning teams.
• Develop and execute sourcing strategies for transformers, reactors, valves, control systems, switchgear, and other high-voltage equipment used in FACTS and HVDC systems.
• Lead commercial evaluations and negotiations, align technical specifications, manage risks, and secure competitive, high-quality solutions.
• Drive cost, efficiency, market insight, and continuous-improvement initiatives across the equipment supply base.
• Coordinate procurement execution from specification and supplier documentation through delivery, FAT, installation, commissioning, purchase orders, and invoice processing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, or equivalent education, plus five or more years of progressive procurement experience in a project environment.
• Experience with negotiation and project-based or technical procurement, ideally involving complex electrical or mechanical equipment.
• Ability to work effectively in a global, matrixed organization with diverse teams, cultures, and stakeholders.
• Clear communication of detailed technical and commercial information, with a team-oriented, customer-focused approach and strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Positive, adaptable, solution-driven approach to complex, high-voltage project environments.
• Fluent English is required to understand international documentation and technical terminology and communicate with customers, suppliers, and international colleagues.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally to suppliers, factories, and project sites.
