Controller (AI)

Location: McLean, Virginia, hybrid; at least one day per week in the office, with some work potentially performed in a cleared facility.

Base salary: $170,000–$220,000 annually, plus bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Own monthly, quarterly, and year-end close under U.S. GAAP and prepare financial statements, reconciliations, and management reporting.
• Manage revenue recognition across firm-fixed-price, time-and-materials, cost-reimbursable, and commercial contracts.
• Lead government contract accounting, including DCAA-compliant systems, timekeeping, job costing, indirect rates, incurred cost submissions, and proposal pricing support.
• Lead external financial statement audits, coordinate tax filings, research complex transactions, and maintain accounting policies and internal controls.
• Partner with FP&A and operational teams on budgets, forecasts, cash flow, contract profitability, ERP ownership, and process automation.
• Hire, develop, and manage the accounting team while establishing operating rhythms and quality standards.

Requirements

• Active CPA license.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of financial close and management of an accounting team.
• Active U.S. security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one; U.S. citizenship is required.
• Experience with or strong knowledge of U.S. government contracting requirements, including FAR, DFARS, DCAA audits, indirect rates, and incurred cost submissions.
• Strong technical accounting skills and command of U.S. GAAP, including ASC 606.
• Experience leading annual audits and working directly with external auditors.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Accounting, including an MAcc or MSA.
• Public accounting experience, ideally involving audit or government contracting advisory work.
• Experience in a venture-backed or high-growth defense technology company.
• Hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, Procas, or similar government contracting ERP systems.
• Experience supporting both government and commercial revenue streams.
