Senior Software Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Somerville, MA; hybrid work with 3+ days per week in the office

Salary: $160,000–$220,000 per year for new hires across US locations.

What you will do

• Own delivery for the team’s product surface, including scoping, sequencing, unblocking, and speed-versus-durability trade-offs with product and design.
• Set technical direction with tech leads and guide architectural decisions.
• Maintain operational health through on-call, incident response, observability, testing, deployment practices, and proactive technical-debt reduction.
• Build an AI-first development culture and raise engineering velocity and quality.
• Hire, mentor, and grow a highly autonomous engineering team while creating career opportunities.
• Collaborate with engineering leadership, product management, Operations & QA, and Customer Success on technical and customer-facing delivery.

Requirements

• 7+ years of SaaS software engineering experience, ideally with contemporary technology stacks and direct involvement in complex, stable backend infrastructure.
• 3+ years of people management experience leading a software team, including hiring, mentoring, and career development.
• Hands-on cross-functional team leadership experience with technical and customer-facing feature delivery.
• Strong understanding of testing and deploying systems in multicloud and multitenant environments.
• Experience architecting systems that integrate agentic and generative AI capabilities.
• Active use of AI tooling in engineering practice and a clear perspective on how it changes team development.
• Familiarity with TypeScript, React, Redux, Node.js, Golang, MongoDB, Postgres, and Docker; the posting allows candidates who do not match every requirement to apply.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent working experience.
