Senior Principal CAD Designer (CAD)

Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Provides integrated storage and asset-management solutions for tanks, terminals, storage systems, and facility lifecycle operations.

What you will do

• Produce and check detail drawings for customer approval, fabrication, and construction in line with design codes, company standards, and customer specifications.
• Develop project setups, layouts, and models for plate structures, foundations, structural components, and piping.
• Prepare and review advance bills and bills of material, comparing them with as-sold estimates and identifying discrepancies or potential change notices.
• Ensure designs are safe and constructible for field erection, and make decisions on project-specific and standard details.
• Maintain CAD programs, templates, standards, manuals, and knowledge-transfer materials.
• Mentor and train less experienced designers, forecast task durations, commit to deadlines, and implement workflow improvements.

Requirements

• 20+ years of relevant experience.
• 2-year technical diploma required.
• Proficiency in 2D and/or 3D CAD using platforms such as MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of steel detailing practices and applicable industry conventions.
• Skills in geometry, trigonometry, unit conversions, quantity take-offs, and basic bills of material.
• Exceptional written, verbal, communication, and presentation skills.
• Strong leadership, analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, interpersonal, and multitasking skills.
• Knowledge of oil and gas markets and products, with the ability to work across complex business environments and build credibility up to senior management level.

Nice to have

• Proficiency in Tekla.
