Sustaining Engineer (Marine)

Location: Vila Nova de Cerveira, Portugal

Salary: €27,000–€32,500 gross annual salary, paid in 14 installments; annual performance bonus of up to 8%.

What you will do

• Develop and modify 3D surface and solid models for boat decks, liners, and components.
• Design, engineer, and validate hinges, mechanisms, mechanical systems, fiberglass designs, purchased parts, hardware, and electrical layouts.
• Generate, review, and approve technical drawings, engineering specifications, and Engineering Change Notices.
• Work with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, Customer Service, and suppliers on product enhancements, issue resolution, manufacturing integration, and cost reduction.
• Analyze warranty data, product performance trends, customer concerns, and field issues to identify root causes and improvement opportunities.
• Perform design verification and validation testing while supporting value engineering and product lifecycle management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related technical discipline; relevant industry experience may substitute for formal education.
• 1–3 years of experience in marine product design preferred, including knowledge of production processes.
• Experience with CAD software, preferably Siemens NX; SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, or Pro-E will also be considered.
• Strong 3D solid and free-surface modeling capabilities.
• Mechanical design and engineering fundamentals, technical problem-solving, root cause analysis, product validation, and testing skills.
• Analytical thinking, attention to detail, communication, decision-making, continuous improvement, and quality and compliance orientation.
• Willingness to travel as required, up to 10%.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and fluent English.

Nice to have

• Marine industry experience and knowledge of production processes.
• Lean Six Sigma certification or experience.
• Experience supporting Engineering Change Notice activities, warranty analysis, and field issue resolution.
• Boating experience or a passion for recreational marine products.
