Senior Software Engineer - DevOps (Observability)

Location: London and UK wide, hybrid

Salary: Up to £74,338 per year, depending on relevant skills, knowledge, and experience.

What you will do

• Architect, design, develop, and scale highly available observability, alerting, cloud, and network infrastructure.
• Build and integrate monitoring and support tools for large-scale performance tracking and corrective automation.
• Diagnose and resolve operational issues and participate in an agile on-call rotation.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and product and operational teams to gather requirements and ensure services are scalable and supportable.
• Drive engineering quality through automated testing, code reviews, SDLC practices, infrastructure as code, and operational automation.
• Shape long-term observability strategy, plan roadmaps, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• Expertise in some listed technologies, familiarity with several others, and willingness to learn.
• Strong experience with Alerta, Grafana, Prometheus, Mimir, Alloy, and Jenkins.
• Experience with Git or GitHub, Atlassian Tools, Telegraf, InfluxDB, Consul, LibreNMS, Docker, Kubernetes, relational and time-series databases, web or HTTP technologies, and backend systems.
• Experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
• Strong programming or scripting experience with Python and Bash/Shell.
• Strong production experience with AWS services including EC2, load balancing, Lambda, SQS, SNS, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, and Route 53.
• Knowledge of system metrics and their impact on availability and performance.
• Experience with Linux operating systems such as RedHat, CentOS, Rocky, or Amazon Linux.
• Understanding of CI/CD practices and large-scale infrastructure design and support.

Nice to have

• Experience with high-throughput metric ingestion at scale and distributed metrics storage or clustering.
• Network knowledge including HTTP, TLS, DNS, or SNMP.
• Experience working in an Agile development environment.
• Comfort collaborating in cross-functional teams, asking questions, seeking feedback, and learning from others.
