Financial Controller

Location: Manchester, Greater Manchester, GB — Oxford Road

Salary: UoM Grade 8 £59,966–£71,566 pro rata, depending on relevant experience

What you will do

• Lead and continuously improve the University’s financial control framework across the University and its subsidiaries.
• Oversee accounting ledger and balance sheet integrity, reconciliations, ownership of balances, outstanding items, risks and exceptions.
• Deliver annual consolidated financial statements, complex accounting disclosures and regulatory returns in line with accounting standards and statutory requirements.
• Lead internal and external auditor relationships for non-research matters, coordinating audit planning, delivery and issue resolution.
• Lead and develop the financial control, capital finance, subsidiary finance, central accounts and UMW finance business partnering teams.

Requirements

• Recognised professional accountancy qualification.
• Degree-level education.
• Expert knowledge of statutory financial reporting, technical accounting and consolidated financial statements.
• Strong knowledge of financial control frameworks, balance sheet management, audit and financial governance in a large, complex organisation.
• Experience leading a senior financial control or financial reporting function in a large, complex organisation with subsidiary entities and consolidation requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience delivering statutory financial statements and regulatory returns to demanding quality and timetable requirements.
• Experience leading internal and external auditor relationships and coordinating complex audits from planning through completion.
• Experience advising and influencing senior financial and non-financial stakeholders on complex, sensitive or high-risk matters.
• Experience leading, motivating and developing multidisciplinary finance teams and delivering service and process improvement.
• Advanced digital and data skills, including analysis of large and complex datasets and effective use of financial systems and spreadsheet tools.
