Founding Backend/AI Engineer (AI)

Location: Paris, France; on-site 3–4 days per week

Salary: €80,000–€95,000 gross per year; founding-level BSPCE equity

What you will do

• Build the application backend, REST API, data model, and should-cost engine for modeling explainable manufacturing costs.
• Develop AI agents that extract and structure technical data, model parts and costs, run cost analyses, and source external reference data.
• Own production reliability through evaluations, monitoring, and cost, quality, and latency trade-offs.
• Process and integrate complex client data through ELT pipelines supporting new formats and use cases.
• Make architectural decisions with the CTO and take foundational systems through to production.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building and shipping software, including significant backend experience.
• Strong Python and TypeScript skills, or strong expertise in one with readiness to develop the other.
• Production experience with APIs, relational databases, SQL, and maintainable code.
• Experience shipping an LLM-powered feature or pipeline and making AI reliable in production.
• Ability to make, defend, revise, and implement architectural decisions while remaining hands-on.
• Pragmatic use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code or equivalent.
• Comfort working in both French and English.
• Comfort operating across the stack, working with ambiguity, and combining architecture with hands-on execution.

Nice to have

• Modern ELT or dbt experience.
• LLM evaluations or vision model experience.
• Experience with CAD or STEP files, rules engines, typed DSLs, product taxonomies, or industrial environments.
