Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid role based in New York City or Washington, D.C.; candidates must reside or be able to commute to one of these locations and work from the office at least four times a week, Monday to Thursday.

Salary: $180K–$260K plus equity.

What you will do

• Own full-stack features from scoping and architecture through development, iteration, and launch.
• Build AI-powered product surfaces, including intelligent intake flows, real-time constituent assistants, automated case routing, and agency operator dashboards.
• Engage directly with federal agency stakeholders and translate complex real-world requirements into shippable products.
• Improve platform reliability and performance for real users and government-scale service-level requirements.
• Set technical direction, establish code-quality patterns, and mentor earlier-career engineers through reviews, pairing, and feedback.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional engineering experience, including ownership of complex features and systems.
• Deep fluency in React, Next.js, Node.js, TypeScript, and Postgres.
• Professional experience using AI coding tools such as Cursor, Copilot, or Claude.
• A real product, open-source project, or other substantial project that you built.
• Ability to operate effectively with ambiguity and make decisions without waiting for predefined answers.
• Care for the end-user experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with federal, state, or local government technology, or regulated and high-stakes environments.
• Hands-on experience with Palantir Foundry or AIP, including ontology modeling, pipelines, or AIP agents.
• Cloud deployment experience with AWS, Vercel, GitHub Actions, or ECS/Fargate.
• Exposure to design systems and component libraries.
• Technical leadership experience in an early-stage environment.
