Legal Counsel (AI)

Location: Remote within Canada; candidates must be based in the Toronto or Ottawa/National Capital regions.

Salary: CA$116,659–CA$170,000 plus equity.

What you will do

• Draft, review, and negotiate enterprise agreements, SaaS contracts, data processing addenda, AI addenda, reseller agreements, and vendor contracts.
• Advise Sales on contract questions, apply contract standards, manage deviations, and maintain templates in the contract management system.
• Support privacy compliance across Canadian, US, and EU laws, including Quebec privacy law, PIPEDA, CCPA, and GDPR.
• Help operate privacy and AI governance programs, monitor developments such as the EU AI Act, and support incident response and regulatory inquiries.
• Advise on Ontario employment matters, internal policies, corporate issues, outside counsel, and other compliance projects.
• Partner with Sales, Finance, HR, Product, and Engineering to provide practical guidance and build playbooks, FAQs, talk tracks, and other self-serve tools.

Requirements

• JD from an accredited Canadian law school.
• Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario.
• 3–7 years of post-call experience at a law firm, in-house, or both.
• Experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, ideally SaaS or technology contracts.
• Working knowledge of privacy law.
• Strong attention to detail, clear and concise writing, and sound judgment about when to decide independently or escalate.
• Ability to manage multiple urgent matters while maintaining quality and a builder’s mindset for creating processes and templates.
• Must be based in the Toronto or Ottawa/National Capital regions.
• Must be a Canadian citizen, including dual citizens, or eligible to work in Canada; a criminal records check is required upon hire.
• Willingness to comply with hirify.global’s security policies and standards.

Nice to have

• In-house experience at a SaaS or technology company, ideally with hardware and software products; law firm experience is valued.
• Experience with US and EU privacy laws, biometrics, or AI regulation such as the EU AI Act.
• Ontario employment law experience.
• Experience with Ironclad or another contract management system.
