Legal Counsel - Product, Privacy and IP (AI)

Location: Remote - USA. Applicants must have the existing legal right to work in the United States on an ongoing basis; visa or work permit sponsorship is not available.

Annual US base salary: $129,200–$170,000 USD, with possible bonuses and benefits.

What you will do

• Advise PrivacyOps, Marketing, Product, Technology, Finance, Support, Employment, and other stakeholders on privacy, cybersecurity, AI, and product matters.
• Maintain privacy notices, policies, procedures, DPIAs, DPAs, Trust Center content, DSAR processes, subprocessor reviews, questionnaires, and compliance handbooks.
• Review, draft, and negotiate SaaS agreements, DPAs, NDAs, vendor agreements, partnerships, procurement terms, and technology transactions.
• Support AI product development, AI assessments, vendor reviews, AI disclaimers, EU AI Act compliance, and IP issues involving training data, outputs, and open source.
• Advise on marketing content, advertising compliance, trademarks, copyright, licensing, brand guidelines, patent filings, and product-related IP.
• Support security incident response, ISO and SOC audits, product development from inception through GTM and EOL, outside counsel coordination, and legal process improvements.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of substantive legal experience in a legal department or nationally recognized law firm.
• JD from an ABA-accredited law school and current bar membership in good standing.
• Substantial experience reviewing and negotiating SaaS agreements, including data processing, security, liability, and AI/ML terms.
• Strong working knowledge and hands-on experience with privacy law, DPAs, DPIAs, and customer privacy and security questionnaires.
• In-house experience with a technology or SaaS company, plus experience with technology transactions, partnerships, external regulators, and customers.
• Working knowledge of intellectual property law, including trademarks, copyright, marketing IP, and patent filings with outside counsel.
• Familiarity with CAN-SPAM, TCPA, DNC, cookie consent, the FTC Negative Option Rule, the EU AI Act, and emerging AI regulation.
• Experience supporting security incident response, customer and regulatory notifications, ISO/SOC audits and assessments, and outside counsel management.
• Strong communication, judgment, business sense, urgency, organization, reliability, proactive client counseling, and ability to work calmly under pressure.

Nice to have

• Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) or Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) certification.
• Experience working with paralegal or assistant support to scale the legal team.
