General Assignment Reporter (News)

Location: Full-time on-site work in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States; must be willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required.

What you will do

• Develop and deliver original enterprise stories through sourcing, in-depth reporting and audience-focused storytelling.
• Shoot, write, edit and produce breaking news, general news, sports and feature stories for Philadelphia and surrounding communities.
• Field produce, conduct interviews and present accurate live reports as part of a reporting team or as a single-person MMJ.
• Respond to breaking news with timely updates across broadcast, digital and social platforms from studio and field locations.
• Own an assigned beat, build trusted sources and community relationships, and develop exclusive follow-up coverage.
• Create daily original content for social media, the mobile app and website, including platform-native video, while collaborating with producers, news managers, assignment editors, reporters and anchors.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a television or multimedia reporter.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in newsgathering, reporting and/or production.
• Minimum 2 years of experience writing, producing and desktop editing.
• Strong live reporting, writing, communication, critical thinking, news judgment, interpersonal and deadline-management skills.
• Ability to investigate information, use public records and data, establish facts, determine truth and make priority decisions under deadline.
• Ability to own a beat, cultivate sources and community relationships, generate original stories, multitask and work independently as well as in a team.
• Experience creating engaging platform-native social content, including vertical video, and using social media for audience engagement, digital storytelling and newsgathering.
• Must have unrestricted work authorization in the United States, be at least 18 years old, and be willing to join the SAG-AFTRA Union.

Nice to have

• BS/BA in Journalism, Communications or a related major, or equivalent work experience.
• Portfolio demonstrating compelling enterprise storytelling, depth, accountability and relevance to local audiences.
• Digital shooting and digital camera experience, working knowledge of non-linear editing, and experience with Dalet.
• Knowledge of Philadelphia and surrounding communities, or ability to quickly develop local expertise and trusted relationships.
• Experience breaking down complex issues and generating distinctive story ideas.
• Spanish language skills.
