Manager Software Development

Location: Westbrook, Maine, United States; hybrid work with onsite presence 2 days per week, or 8 days per month

Salary: $150,000 per year, with flexibility based on experience

What you will do

• Manage assigned RADIXX engineering teams, including developers and dotted-line QA and architecture functions, supporting WebPACS and VMS delivery.
• Plan work, staffing, resources, budgets, operating policies, and procedures while monitoring delivery, quality, reliability, and customer impact.
• Assign work, evaluate performance, coach employees, manage employment actions, and support professional development.
• Triage feature requests, high-priority defects, technical debt, and cross-team dependencies, including escalated and critical issues.
• Drive operational efficiencies, process improvements, automation, and data-based improvements to quality and delivery velocity.
• Coordinate with Product, Security, Infrastructure, engineering teams, Development Managers, vendors, and contractors; report delivery outcomes and product or service health.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 8+ years of management experience in a software engineering environment, with in-depth knowledge of engineering operations.
• Experience managing larger or complex multidisciplinary teams across development, QA, and architecture, including dotted-line or matrix reporting relationships.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and direct work across concurrent workstreams, balance competing requests, and manage escalated and critical issues.
• Experience developing team-level operational, delivery, and organizational plans and controlling resources within the function.
• Knowledge of software engineering operations, development practices, delivery pipelines, and production support environments.
• Working knowledge of Java, C#, React, and Angular sufficient to engage with developers and technical leads on design decisions, trade-offs, and delivery risk.
• Awareness of AI/ML trends and tooling for software engineering, including AI-assisted development, automation opportunities, and responsible adoption.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, reasoning, problem-solving, analytical, project management, and business relationship-building skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard engineering collaboration tools.
