Solution Architect-North Central (Data Infrastructure)

Location: North Central United States; ideal base in Chicago or Minneapolis

What you will do

• Own technical evaluations for enterprise accounts from discovery through proof of concept or competitive bake-off, architecture sign-off, security review, and the first production workload.
• Design production-scale architectures covering sizing, sharding, replication, ingestion topology, tiered storage, cost modeling, and failure scenarios.
• Lead competitive displacements against Elasticsearch, Splunk, Snowflake, BigQuery, Druid, Pinot, and homegrown systems using reproducible customer-data benchmarks.
• Own migration plans including sequencing, dual-run, validation, and cutover.
• Clear security and procurement requirements, including questionnaires, compliance artifacts, network and identity architecture, and BYOC or private deployment requirements.
• Partner with Enterprise Account Executives on technical wins and TCO cases, advocate for customer needs with Product and Engineering, and create reference architectures, benchmark harnesses, migration guides, and objection-handling materials.

Requirements

• Deep technical foundation in data infrastructure gained as a data engineer, platform engineer, software engineer, DBA, or solutions architect.
• Production experience operating analytical databases such as ClickHouse, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Druid, Pinot, or Vertica.
• Strong judgment in distributed systems, including partitioning, replication, consistency trade-offs, and query execution under load.
• Fluency across the modern data stack, including Kafka and CDC pipelines, orchestration, object storage, BI tools, and at least one major cloud platform: AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience running technical evaluations against named competitors, winning them, and designing migrations away from incumbent systems.
• Customer-facing experience in pre-sales, consulting, technical account management, or a staff-level engineering role.
• Strong written and verbal communication, including communication with staff engineers and VP-level engineering stakeholders.
• Comfort managing longer enterprise cycles with multiple stakeholders.
• Willingness to recommend ClickHouse only when it is the right tool for the workload.
