Assistant Controller (Software)

Location: Remote within Canada or based in the Ottawa office; limited travel may be required.

Salary: CAD 70,000–80,000 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus or merit program.

What you will do

• Review complex revenue recognition for software contracts under IFRS 15, including WIP schedules.
• Review purchase price allocations for acquisitions, including net tangible asset workbooks, intangible asset valuations, and purchase price reconciliations.
• Research accounting matters, help implement new accounting standards, and collaborate on revenue recognition and acquisition accounting issues.
• Review variance analysis across Harris, verticals, and business units, as well as account reconciliations.
• Provide coaching and mentoring to accounting staff and support month-, quarter-, and year-end close, consolidation reporting, and audits.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in business, finance, or accounting.
• 4+ years of experience in an accounting or finance environment.
• Completed or ongoing CPA designation studies.
• Experience with complex revenue recognition and the IFRS reporting framework.

Nice to have

• Experience with project accounting using percentage-of-completion methods and software revenue recognition.
• Exposure to business combinations under IFRS 3, purchase price allocations, or intangible asset valuations.
• CPA designation.
• Formal or informal people management experience.
• Public accounting experience.
