Assistant Controller (Fintech)

Location: South Africa; fully remote

What you will do

• Upload and reconcile bank, financial institution, PSP, and liquidity-provider statements in the ERP.
• Prepare and review month-end journals, accruals, prepayments, balance-sheet reconciliations, and assigned close activities.
• Support consolidated management accounts, group financial statements, monthly result reviews, investor reporting, due diligence, and ad hoc analysis.
• Maintain accurate NetSuite records, documentation, controls, templates, and standard operating procedures.
• Contribute to reconciliation automation, reporting workflows, scalable finance processes, and new-market expansion.
• Collaborate with FP&A, Treasury, Tax, Legal, Compliance, Product, auditors, the VP Finance, and Controllers while mentoring junior accountants.

Requirements

• Strong accounting knowledge and understanding of IFRS principles.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, interpersonal, Excel, and financial-analysis skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proficiency in financial reporting, consolidated statements, multi-currency transactions, reconciliations, Microsoft Excel, and ERP systems.
• Ability to manage deadlines, prioritize tasks, and work across multiple jurisdictions.
• Big 4 audit or mid-tier advisory experience is mandatory, including exposure to complex financial reporting environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Professional certification such as SAICA, CPA, ACCA, ACMA/CGMA, ICAEW, or CFA, or being at the final qualification stage.
• At least 5 years of experience in controlling or finance roles, preferably in a multinational environment.
• Experience with reporting assets held on behalf of clients is required.
• Extensive NetSuite experience is required, including managing the chart of accounts, opening new entities, and creating custom NetSuite reports.
• Experience with IFRS reporting and intercompany reconciliations.
