Application Development Engineer (Semiconductor)

Location: East Syracuse, NY, United States

Salary: $90,000–$110,000 annually, plus a target 10% profit-sharing bonus.

What you will do

• Develop QCM applications for semiconductor and display manufacturing equipment and process tools.
• Interpret sensor data to characterize, optimize, and troubleshoot semiconductor equipment and processes.
• Create custom integration solutions and advise field application engineers and customers on application best-known methods.
• Troubleshoot hardware-level product performance issues, audit installed equipment, and participate in customer meetings and escalations.
• Design and execute experiments, analyze and present findings, and quantify technical value and customer ROI.
• Document laboratory evaluations and develop customer presentations, application bulletins, and technical articles.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related technical field, with 5 or more years of experience in commercial semiconductor manufacturing process or equipment engineering.
• Strong understanding of semiconductor processes and tools, yield improvement, and practical problem-solving.
• Strong curiosity and technical initiative, including investigating complex problems, developing hypotheses, designing experiments, analyzing data, and driving solutions.
• Excellent problem-solving, listening, written and verbal communication, and presentation skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with internal teams, field application engineers, and customers.
• Ability to adapt to changing field and customer situations, manage multiple technical priorities, and work independently within a collaborative team.

Nice to have

• Ph.D. in a related technical field.
• Experience in semiconductor fabs and hands-on research laboratory or semiconductor process equipment experience.
• Direct Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM) experience.
• Experience with thin-film deposition, chamber clean monitoring, semiconductor process monitoring, or related QCM applications.
• Experience with Residual Gas Analysis (RGA), Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES), RF sensing, or other semiconductor process monitoring technologies.
