Configuration Engineer (Hybrid) (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Antonio, Texas, United States; must work 2–3 full 8-hour days per week at the San Antonio office or onsite.

Salary: $100,173–$140,000 per year.

What you will do

• Define, manage, and automate build and deployment lifecycles for complex computer-based systems.
• Help developers create and manage build scripts and CI pipeline automation.
• Oversee release strategies and build tools that streamline software releases and deployments.
• Integrate AI coding agents such as Claude Code and Gemini into configuration management and engineering workflows.
• Use autonomous agents for multi-file configuration implementations, build-script refactoring, automated testing, and automation-script generation.
• Guide agents through multi-repository architectures and audit generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Configuration Engineering, Build Engineering, or DevOps, with strong coding skills; alternatively, 7 years of relevant experience with a related master’s degree, or 13 years of relevant experience with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• U.S. citizenship required; must obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance, which is not required on day one.
• Experience with Git and GitLab/GitHub CI pipeline automation.
• Experience with Gradle and/or Maven, Docker image management and deployment, release management strategies, and software environments.
• Experience with the agile software lifecycle and Linux.
• Must have or obtain DoD 8140 / 8570 IAT Level II compliance certification within 60 days of starting.
• Must be able to work in the hybrid arrangement at the San Antonio office or onsite, averaging 2–3 days per week; flexibility for schedule changes is required.
• Strong troubleshooting, release coordination, responsiveness, ability to work under pressure and across multiple deadlines, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

• Current U.S. Government clearance.

• AI tools including Claude Code or Gemini used in daily engineering workflows, including autonomous implementation, refactoring, and automated testing of infrastructure or build code.

• Big Data Platform/JCRS-D, data lake or warehouse experience.
• Java and/or Kotlin and related technologies.
