Senior Software Engineer (Backend) – Issuance (Fintech)

Location: South Africa, Bulgaria, Poland, or Spain; hybrid/remote working policy

Salary: €70,000–€110,000 in Bulgaria; €85,000–€110,000 in Spain; PLN 250,000–480,000 in Poland

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable backend services and APIs for stablecoin issuance, including minting, burning, supply management, and token configuration.
• Build compliance and control features such as freeze, unfreeze, seizure into quarantine, pause/resume, and maker-checker approvals.
• Integrate backend services with smart contracts on EVM-compatible networks and ensure reliable, idempotent, observable blockchain interactions.
• Develop event-driven services, signed webhooks, and audit trails that keep issuers, internal systems, ledgers, and accounting systems synchronized.
• Collaborate with digital assets, ledger, identity and access, financial crime, security, Product, Design, and engineering teams.
• Own services in production, contribute to architecture, review code, mentor engineers, and improve monitoring, incident response, reliability, and performance.

Requirements

• Strong, proven backend engineering experience building production systems, ideally with Java or Kotlin and Spring Boot.
• Hands-on experience designing microservices and event-driven architectures, ideally using Kafka or similar messaging platforms.
• Experience building high-integrity transactional systems where correctness, idempotency, consistency, and auditability are critical.
• Experience designing clean, documented REST APIs and secure webhook integrations for external customers.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, as well as containerisation and CI/CD pipelines.
• Understanding of secure coding, access control, and role-based permissions in regulated environments.
• Clear communication, ownership of outcomes, and effective collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders in a fast-moving environment.
• Use of AI tools and agentic workflows to improve delivery speed and quality.

Nice to have

• Experience with EVM-compatible networks, ERC-20 tokens, smart-contract interaction, Web3j, ethers, or Solidity.
• Experience with stablecoin issuance, tokenisation, custody, or wallet infrastructure.
• Familiarity with sanctions screening, the Travel Rule, or other digital-asset regulatory controls.
• Experience in payments, banking, or other regulated financial services.
