Associate, Mergers & Acquisitions (Global Investment Banking)

Location: On-site full-time at Toronto-161 Bay St., 6th, Toronto, Canada

Annualized base salary: $135,000 CAD, plus participation in an annual discretionary incentive or bonus program.

What you will do

• Analyze and develop client proposals for mergers, divestitures, acquisitions, and other financial products and advisory services.
• Take an active role in day-to-day execution of sell-side, buy-side, fairness opinion, and strategic assignments.
• Build and audit sophisticated financial models, industry comparables, and precedent transaction analyses.
• Conduct industry and financial research, company due diligence, and internal presentation of findings.
• Prepare confidential offering memoranda and other marketing materials while coordinating information flow across deal teams.
• Build client, internal, external, and product-group relationships; collaborate with legal, accounting, audit, and other advisors; and mentor analysts.

Requirements

• Previous Investment Banking or M&A transaction advisory experience is mandatory.
• Undergraduate degree in Finance or Engineering.
• Strong knowledge of valuation techniques, accounting principles related to financial statements and business combinations, and financial analysis.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Bloomberg, FactSet, and applicable industry software.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise with client-side professionals and explain complex technical information.
• Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, judgment, ethics, professionalism, and independent decision-making skills.
• Ability to work under pressure with multiple or competing deadlines, maintain meticulous attention to detail, assume responsibility quickly, and accommodate flexible personal time commitments when required.
• Must be legally eligible to work at the specified location and, where applicable, hold a valid work or study permit.

Nice to have

• Professional-level knowledge of Canadian M&A processes across different mandate types.
• CPA or CFA qualification.
• Client-side professional experience.
