Risk Specialist (Crypto)

Location: New York, NY or Menlo Park, CA, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week

Base pay: $94,000–$110,000 USD for Zone 1 locations; other listed zones range from $73,000–$97,000 USD depending on location.

What you will do

• Facilitate technical, product, process, and control risk assessments for crypto products, features, and business changes with engineering and product owners.
• Analyze incidents and issues, identify root causes and systemic themes, and support retrospectives and actionable reporting for leadership.
• Manage operational loss tracking, including definitions, intake, taxonomy, incident linkage, and trend reporting.
• Manage the issue lifecycle from identification and prioritization through remediation, escalation, and closure.
• Perform and refresh RCSAs, support Business Impact Analyses, and design or monitor KRIs.
• Prepare risk committee and board materials and translate technical risks into clear terms for non-engineering stakeholders while partnering with engineering, product, compliance, crypto operations, and enterprise risk teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in operational risk, enterprise risk management, or technology risk at a regulated financial services or crypto/fintech firm; US-based ERM experience is preferred.
• Hands-on experience facilitating RCSAs, technology, product, or process risk assessments directly with business, product, and engineering owners.
• Experience designing, running, or materially contributing to business continuity or disaster recovery exercises, including scenario design, facilitation, and after-action reporting.
• Experience performing root cause or thematic analysis across incidents and identifying patterns and systemic issues from operational data.
• Deep understanding of risk taxonomies, control design, KRIs, and issue management.
• Technical exposure and comfort reading engineering design documents and incident post-mortems; a software engineering background is not required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for explaining technical concepts and presenting risk findings across the organization.
• Detail-oriented, proactive, and independent approach to identifying and addressing risk.

Nice to have

• Direct cryptocurrency industry experience, including familiarity with crypto products, custody, and blockchain fundamentals.
• Computer science or engineering degree, especially with a career in risk, compliance, or another non-engineering role.
• Experience building or operating an operational loss event program.
• Third-party and vendor risk management experience, particularly with critical technology or custody providers.
• Familiarity with NYDFS 23 NYCRR 500, DORA, or MiCA operational resilience expectations.
• Experience with GRC tools such as LogicGate or similar platforms.
• Analytical background with SQL, Python, or a BI tool.
