Senior Substation Engineer (Electrical Transmission)

Location: Applicants must be based in one of the Scottish locations—Aberdeen, Perth, Inverness, or Glasgow—and spend 50% of the working week in the office.

Salary: £59,800–£89,800 plus car or car allowance, performance-related bonus, and benefits.

What you will do

• Review and approve primary substation designs up to 400kV, including single-line diagrams, electrical layouts, and scopes of work.
• Provide senior technical input into engineering decisions, specifications, innovative technology, and engineering risk management.
• Influence solutions across the project portfolio through technical challenge, peer review, and collaborative decision-making.
• Provide technical leadership, coaching, and support to Project Engineers.
• Direct engineering consultants, contractors, and other supply-chain partners to achieve high-quality outcomes.

Requirements

• Strong experience in substation, transmission, or complex electrical infrastructure design, including evaluating technical challenges and engineering solutions.
• Sound understanding of relevant engineering standards, legislation, and design requirements, including CDM.
• Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Collaborative approach and ability to build effective relationships with colleagues, consultants, contractors, and delivery partners.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.

Nice to have

• Chartered Engineer status or progress towards chartership.
