IDNO Electrical Design Engineer

Location: Hybrid role with Derby, United Kingdom as the base location

Salary: £52,620–£66,907 per year

What you will do

• Review and audit ICP electrical design submissions for residential, EV, industrial, commercial, export, green technology, and private wire network projects.
• Ensure designs are technically and commercially compliant for IDNO asset adoption and meet legislation, industry standards, hirify.global specifications, and SHEQ requirements.
• Design and review cable capacity calculations, load flow studies, protection studies, and HV/LV earthing studies.
• Provide technical support and design guidance to customers, ICPs, and developers, including concept and preliminary design solutions.
• Verify land-right requirements and coordinate with operations and auditing teams on technical project delivery.
• Prepare design guidance papers and support understanding of IDNO and DNO technical standards.

Requirements

• Degree, HNC, or HND qualification in Electrical Power Systems or Electrical Engineering with proven experience.
• Detailed knowledge of DNO and IDNO technical requirements, including G81 standards.
• Strong understanding of cable design, switchgear, substation material specifications, and associated HV/LV protection schemes.
• Strong knowledge of HV/LV earthing and protection systems.
• Strong technical knowledge of industrial and commercial, residential, and EV grid connections, as well as export and green technologies.
• Experience supporting ICP tender teams with LV/HV switchgear specifications, protection schemes, and CT/VT equipment.
• Understanding of responsibilities under CDM regulations and relevant ENA Engineering Recommendations, including G99, G100, P28, and P29.
• Knowledge of power system software such as Windebut and Trimble (Amtech), or similar software, and ability to use AutoCAD.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of EHV connections and design.
• Knowledge of IET codes of practice for electric vehicles, PV systems, and electrical storage.
