Lead Operations Engineer (Electrical Transmission)

Location: Scottish locations, based in or around Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire, with 50% of the working week in the office; regular travel and occasional work away from the base location required.

Salary: £71,869–£96,301 plus overtime, standby, car or car allowance, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead, develop, and manage Operational Engineers delivering capital projects, inspection, maintenance, and fault-response activities.
• Provide operational leadership focused on safety, quality, cost, performance, and continuous improvement.
• Work with Protection & Control, SCADA, construction, commissioning, and project teams to integrate new plant and equipment.
• Coordinate operational responses, standby duties, major system faults, and network emergencies.
• Improve operational procedures, authorisations, contractor competence, and network resilience.

Requirements

• Demonstrable experience operating and maintaining transmission plant and cable assets.
• Understanding of asset management principles, including ISO 55000.
• Experience working as a Senior Authorised Person, with the ability and willingness to continue in this capacity.
• Strong leadership, planning, communication, stakeholder-management, and operational-prioritisation skills.
• HNC-level Electrical Engineering qualification or equivalent experience.
• Full, current driving licence and flexibility to travel regularly across the operational area.
• Applicants must be based in one of the specified Scottish locations and work from the office 50% of the week.

Nice to have

• Chartered Engineer status.
• IOSH or NEBOSH qualifications.
• NEC3 awareness.
