TL;DR
High-Speed SerDes & Mixed-Signal Validation Engineer (VCSEL optical interconnect): Designing and validating electrical and optical test platforms, PCBs, evaluation boards, and automated measurement benches for high-speed interconnect products with an accent on mixed-signal characterization, optical link measurements, and cross-vendor correlation. Focus on bringing up electro-optical chiplets, developing Python-based bench automation, solving signal and power integrity challenges, and leading complex validation projects.

Location: Pavia, Italy

Expected base pay: €48,800–€65,000 per annum

Company

hirify.global develops semiconductor solutions and optical interconnects for enterprise, cloud, AI, carrier, and communication infrastructure applications.

What you will do

  • Own test platform, bench, or board designs from requirements through bring-up, lead project work, resolve conflicts, and technically guide junior engineers.
  • Design electrical and optical test platforms for VCSEL-based optical interconnects, including bench architecture, instrument qualification, calibration, automation, and cross-lab correlation.
  • Develop PCBs, evaluation and characterization boards, test fixtures, and optical/electrical adapters, covering requirements, schematics, stack-up, SI/PI, layout, fabrication, assembly, and bring-up.
  • Develop measurement methods for optical links and high-speed electrical interfaces, including optical power, spectrum, eye and waveform measurements, BER, noise, jitter, and link margin.
  • Bring up, debug, and characterize electro-optical chiplets and products; define and execute validation plans from first silicon through product tape-out.
  • Automate instruments and data flows in Python, work with optics vendors and cross-functional teams, and produce test plans, reports, design guidelines, and application collateral.

Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optical Engineering, or a related field, with 6+ years of related experience; alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree with 9+ years of related experience.
  • Hands-on experience with high-speed electrical measurements using real-time and sampling oscilloscopes, BERT, VNA/TDR, AWG, spectrum analyzers, and established laboratory techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with optical measurements using optical power meters, optical spectrum analyzers, optical/high-speed photoreceivers, fiber handling, and optical alignment.
  • Experience automating benches in Python with SCPI/VISA/GPIB instrument control and analyzing data with Python, MATLAB, JMP, or R.
  • Working knowledge of high-speed board design, including schematics and layouts, SI/PI, transmission-line and EM fundamentals, PCB materials, fabrication, and assembly; experience with OrCAD/Allegro or equivalent tools.
  • Strong fundamentals in communication systems and analog and digital circuits.
  • Demonstrated ownership of complex platform or board projects, mentoring experience, troubleshooting ability, and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Fluent English required; readiness to work with remote teams across Italy, Vietnam, Canada, and the US.
  • Applicants must be eligible to access export-controlled technology and software; an export license review may be required before employment.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment under the Italian CCNL for employees of tertiary distribution and services companies, classified as Impiegato.
  • Collaborative, transparent, and inclusive work environment with resources for professional growth and development.
  • Eligible for bonus and equity plans, including a new-hire equity grant and annual equity refreshers.
  • Qualified candidates with disabilities and individuals belonging to protected categories under Italian Law 68/99 are encouraged to apply.

Hiring process

  • AI tools, transcription apps, real-time answer generators, and automated note-taking bots are prohibited during interviews; unauthorized use results in disqualification.
