Senior Mechanical Engineer – Photonics & Optical Systems

What you will do

• Design mechanical and thermal solutions, including enclosures, thermal interfaces, and components integrating photonic and electronic hardware.
• Perform thermal simulations and optimize heat dissipation, temperature stability, airflow, and thermal expansion effects.
• Conduct dimensional and geometric tolerance stack-up analyses to ensure alignment, assembly accuracy, and product performance.
• Collaborate with optical, hardware, electrical, software, and photonics engineers across product development.
• Design and optimize mechanical fixtures and tooling for accurate, repeatable, efficient, and scalable calibration and testing.
• Support manufacturing scale-up from prototypes to high-volume production with attention to manufacturability, assembly, cost, repeatability, and quality.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical design and thermal simulations.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD, engineering drawings, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Strong understanding of heat transfer, thermal expansion, material properties, structural mechanics, deformation, and dimensional stability.
• Experience using thermal and structural analysis tools, supported by hands-on testing and validation.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes, material selection, design for manufacturing, and assembly.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of optical or photonic products, optical communication systems, data centers, and telecommunications.
• Experience with TEC-based temperature control, thermal interface materials, and thermal management of temperature-sensitive optical devices.
• Familiarity with environmental and reliability testing, including thermal cycling, shock, vibration, and ingress protection.
• Experience working in Agile teams.
• Experience supporting manufacturing scale-up, production testing, automated testing, or product qualification.
