Java Backend Developer (AI)

Location: Remote; candidates located in Europe or Ukraine

hirify.global provides engineering services for a US software company developing a Digital Data Governance platform used by global enterprises to support data trust, privacy compliance, and digital customer experiences.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain backend services primarily in Java, with additional Scala services.
• Manage AWS infrastructure using Terraform.
• Optimize application code, database queries, service communication, and infrastructure performance.
• Design complex analytical queries and compose technical designs for new product features.
• Perform software analysis, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting.
• Participate in architecture, software development, daytime on-call rotation, and Operational Excellence initiatives.

Requirements

• 4+ years of hands-on commercial Java backend development experience, including Java 8+, streams, and lambdas.
• Strong expertise in Spring Framework and Spring Boot.
• Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
• Professional experience with relational databases, particularly MySQL.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services including EC2, ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, and S3.
• Experience writing and maintaining unit and integration tests.
• Good understanding of DRY, SOLID, OOP, and OOD principles.
• Upper-Intermediate English level or higher.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding agents such as Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar tools.

Nice to have

• Experience designing highly scalable, reliable, and available software in fast-paced distributed environments.
• Experience with debugging, performance profiling, and optimization.
• Experience with Snowflake, RabbitMQ or Amazon SQS, CircleCI or Jenkins, Docker, Scala, or Akka.
