Backend AEM Developer

Location: Remote from anywhere in the world, or from offices in Kyiv, Lviv, or Warsaw

What you will do

• Develop modular OSGi components, custom workflows, and backend services using Java and Apache Sling.
• Coordinate with frontend engineers on data contracts and expose optimized structured JSON feeds through Sling Models.
• Integrate external enterprise applications, databases, and services through REST and SOAP APIs.
• Write unit tests with JUnit and Mockito and validate functionality in staging environments.
• Diagnose performance bottlenecks and runtime errors across local and hosted server tiers using logs and OSGi management consoles.
• Perform self-reviews, monitor server anomalies, and raise technical risks early.

Requirements

• 3+ years of commercial experience in AEM backend engineering.
• Strong expertise in Java, Apache Sling, OSGi services and configurations, Sling Models, and JCR/Oak.
• Practical experience with AEM 6.5+ and familiarity with AEM as a Cloud Service.
• Experience integrating third-party platforms and services through RESTful and SOAP APIs, including JSON handling.
• Experience writing thorough unit tests with JUnit and Mockito.
• Ability to independently decompose requirements, take responsibility for features, and validate stability in pre-production or staging environments.
• Ability to align data schemas with colleagues, communicate impediments, and keep task delivery visible.
• English level: Upper-Intermediate (B2) or higher.

Nice to have

• Adobe Certified Professional or Expert AEM Developer certification.
• Hands-on experience with Adobe Cloud Manager and modern CI/CD deployment workflows.
• Understanding of HTL/Sightly.
