Senior Director, Product Management (AI)

Location: Bentonville, Arkansas, or Sunnyvale, California, United States; onsite home-office locations.

Annual salary: $160,000–$320,000 for Bentonville or $208,000–$416,000 for Sunnyvale, plus performance bonuses and possible stock.

What you will do

• Define the vision, strategy, roadmap, investment priorities, and measurable outcomes for Walmart’s Enterprise AI Platform.
• Build platform capabilities across MLOps, model and inference access, LLM gateways, lifecycle management, developer experience, observability, governance, reliability, and AI economics.
• Create durable abstractions and model, provider, and infrastructure optionality while reducing technology lock-in.
• Improve developer workflows for discovering, evaluating, deploying, observing, and operating AI workloads from development through production.
• Embed safety, security, privacy, governance, cost controls, reliability, and guardrails into scalable platform defaults.
• Lead cross-functional alignment across Product, Engineering, Infrastructure, Governance, Security, Data, Finance, Procurement, and business teams while building a high-performing product organization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related area and 13 years of product management experience, or 15 years of product management or related experience.
• Extensive product leadership experience building and scaling AI/ML platforms, developer platforms, cloud platforms, infrastructure products, or other highly technical enterprise platforms.
• Strong understanding of machine learning, generative AI, foundation models, multimodal systems, agents, inference, MLOps, model lifecycle management, evaluation, observability, and AI infrastructure.
• Technical depth to engage with senior engineers, architects, infrastructure teams, and AI experts on APIs, platform abstractions, distributed systems, reliability, performance, cloud infrastructure, and architecture.
• Strong product judgment, strategic and systems thinking, financial and business acumen, and the ability to connect customer needs, technology, economics, risk, and enterprise strategy.
• Ability to operate in ambiguity, establish principles, make tradeoffs, influence senior leaders and technical teams, and drive execution across organizational boundaries.
• Exceptional storytelling, executive communication, listening, maturity, self-awareness, intellectual flexibility, and bias for action.
• Experience building and developing strong product teams and senior product leaders.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related area, and 12 years of product manager experience.
• Experience with consumer-facing, large-scale, highly complex B2B/C products, supervisory responsibilities, AI/ML or GenAI platforms, MLOps, model gateways, inference optimization, evaluation, agents, observability, or cloud infrastructure.
• Experience across commercial and open model ecosystems, AI governance, Responsible AI, security, privacy, safety engineering, unit economics, and build-versus-buy decisions.
• Experience leading global product teams and influencing distributed engineering and business organizations.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, digital accessibility, and accessible product development.
