Director of Data (Healthcare)

Location: 100% remote within the U.S. or hybrid with at least three days per week in the New York City office.

Salary: $220,000–$250,000 annually, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Build and own the data backbone for trustworthy company-wide decision-making.
• Audit and stabilize ETL pipelines across Fivetran, Mozart, and Snowflake, improving reliability and freshness.
• Consolidate duplicated models, metrics, and transformation logic into a documented canonical modeling and semantic layer.
• Establish data-quality testing, monitoring, alerting, lineage, and a single source of truth.
• Define the data strategy, governance, access controls, and AI-ready data layer for a HIPAA-covered healthcare environment.
• Partner with Product, Growth, Finance, Strategy, Clinical, analysts, and leadership while building the data engineering function over time.

Requirements

• 8+ years in data engineering or analytics engineering, including direct and recent ownership of production ETL and warehouse modeling.
• Strong SQL, cloud warehouse experience, ETL tooling, and transformation and modeling layers; Snowflake is preferred.
• Experience taking over brittle, duplicated, or undocumented pipelines and making them reliable, documented, and trusted.
• Strong data modeling fundamentals and a bias toward a single source of truth.
• Experience designing data governance and handling sensitive data, including security and access control in a regulated environment.

Nice to have

• Healthcare or HIPAA experience, including EMR data, FHIR, and claims.
• Experience with D2C growth metrics.
• Experience with Amplitude, product event taxonomy, and AI- or LLM-assisted analytics such as semantic layers, metric catalogs, or Claude skills.
• Experience building and managing a data team at a high-growth Series B to D startup.
