Principal Ruby on Rails Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Virtual, New Jersey, United States

Salary: $96,500–$207,500 annual base pay, with eligibility for incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain Newline’s core RESTful API with Ruby on Rails.
• Design and implement backend infrastructure with SRE teams using Terraform, and integrate the platform with bank core services and APIs.
• Build internal data pipelines and BI tools, while scaling and optimizing the API platform.
• Write unit and integration tests with the QA team and participate in architecture discussions and code reviews.
• Establish data and information security practices, maintain compliance controls and documentation, and provide operational troubleshooting.
• Coach less experienced engineers and provide technical leadership within the Agile team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technology field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Eight or more years of engineering or relevant IT experience, including prior work in a technical or team lead capacity.
• Hands-on experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, ActiveRecord, and writing unit tests in RSpec.
• Knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and the ability to build and consume command-line tools.
• Experience working in an Agile software environment and applying modern software development practices.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills, willingness to work collaboratively, and experience designing, implementing, and supporting complex technical solutions.
• Solid understanding of IT security best practices.

Nice to have

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code deployments using Terraform.
• Experience building high-TPS API systems at approximately 100 TPS.
• Experience shipping highly available 99.99% enterprise B2B SaaS products.
• Experience working in a regulated financial environment.
