FinOps Operational Cost Control, Director (Cloud Infrastructure)

Salary: USD 172,000–215,000 per year

What you will do

• Build hosting and cloud cost transparency through reporting, dashboards, unit economics, and cost-driver analysis by product, team, and workload.
• Partner with Engineering to identify and execute savings initiatives such as rightsizing, reserved capacity, architecture changes, and non-production environment efficiency.
• Establish cost governance for AI/GPU compute and security telemetry pipelines, including data retention and lifecycle decisions with Security and Compliance.
• Manage cost and pricing tradeoffs across multi-cloud, multi-region infrastructure, including data transfer, residency, and compliance costs.
• Translate infrastructure costs into cost-to-serve and gross-margin metrics that inform pricing and competitive strategy.
• Drive cross-functional cost initiatives, reporting savings, cost-aware architecture patterns, automated tagging hygiene, and regular cost reviews.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in FinOps, cloud cost optimization, or operational cost management, including leading enterprise-wide initiatives and influencing cross-functional leaders.
• Proven success reducing cloud or hosting spend at scale across AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Strong understanding of unit economics and the ability to translate technical infrastructure costs into actionable finance and business metrics.
• Experience building governance processes, cross-functional accountability, and governance structures across Finance, Product, and Engineering leadership.
• Ability to operate autonomously in a highly visible role.
• Hands-on experience with multi-cloud architectures across AWS, GCP, and Azure, plus large-scale telemetry or data ingestion pipelines.
• Experience optimizing GPU/AI compute costs or high-volume data pipeline costs.

Nice to have

• FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) certification or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Familiarity with the FOCUS (FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification) framework.
