Hardware Design Engineer - Intern (FPGA)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Salary: CAD 95K–100K annually, with additional performance-based incentive opportunities.

What you will do

• Design, integrate, and validate RTL for FPGA-based systems and platforms.
• Implement FPGA subsystems using PCIe, EMIF, Ethernet, networking IPs, and ARM Hard Processor Systems.
• Collaborate with hardware, software, and application teams on FPGA hardware-software co-design and integration.
• Support board bring-up, system-level validation, debugging, architecture, and performance optimization.
• Develop software abstractions, drivers, and frameworks for FPGA acceleration solutions.
• Work on complex FPGA-based products including SmartNICs, GPU-connected embedded platforms, and ARM HPS-based solutions.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Engineering Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent field.
• At least 3 months of experience in digital logic hardware design or verification, including SystemVerilog, Verilog, and/or VHDL.
• At least 3 months of experience in software programming or scripting, including C/C++ and/or Python.
• Strong communication, initiative, innovation, teamwork, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
• Accountability, integrity, a results-oriented mindset, collaborative working style, influencing skills, and willingness to work across global teams.
• Applicants must be eligible for any required Canadian export authorizations. Canadian work experience is not required.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with FPGA development flows and tools such as Quartus.
• Experience with hardware-software co-design or embedded systems projects.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
