Multimedia Journalist

Location: Chicago, IL, United States; onsite role

Base pay: $82,000–$87,500 per year

What you will do

• Research, enterprise, develop, write, shoot, produce, report, and edit assigned stories for recorded or live newscasts.
• Gather information, conduct interviews, and build relationships with community leaders, government officials, local authorities, and news contacts.
• Create compelling stories using creative shots, engaging visuals, and strong storytelling for on-air and online audiences.
• Publish videos, pictures, and stories to websites, Facebook, other social media outlets, and streaming platforms.
• Present clear, concise, objective reports and develop enterprising story and sweeps-series ideas.
• Work independently in the field, including under changing weather conditions, while maintaining positive collaboration with coworkers and the community.

Requirements

• 2+ years of newsroom experience required; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Excellent written and verbal command of Spanish and English.
• Ability to work independently as a one-person band: operate field cameras and gear, write, produce, and edit stories from beginning to end.
• Advanced knowledge of field cameras, production equipment, and editing systems.
• Ability to use newsroom computer systems and applications, including hardware and software.
• High ethical and journalistic standards, solid news judgment, and strong storytelling skills.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Ability to sit, stand, and walk for up to 8 hours without restrictions and lift and carry up to 30 pounds for extended periods.
• Must be a member of or join SAG-AFTRA.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in multimedia, journalism, television broadcasting, or a related field.
• Knowledge of iNews, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Creative Cloud, and file-sharing systems.
