Meteorologist

Location: Buffalo, New York, United States; onsite

Salary: $50,000–$60,000 per year

What you will do

• Produce and present weather reports for all platforms, including broadcast, web, and social media.
• Forecast weather conditions and write and deliver clear, concise weather stories.
• Respond to breaking and severe weather events and other urgent newsroom situations.
• Support weather programming through copy editing, research, coordination, and daily local forecast web stories.
• Work with the weather team to develop comprehensive coverage and participate in public appearances and promotional activities.
• Guide, direct, motivate, coach, and mentor others, and perform special projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
• Minimum five years of experience in weather reporting or anchoring, with flexibility based on market size.
• Fluency in English and excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to ad lib when required.
• Superior on-air presence and a strong understanding of meteorology with a proven forecasting track record.
• Experience guiding, directing, and motivating others, including identifying developmental needs and coaching or mentoring others.
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other office equipment.
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, listen effectively, and collaborate with a team to shape solutions.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Flexibility to work any shift.
