Senior Director, Legal - Global Privacy & Data Counsel

Location: Hybrid in San Mateo, California, United States, or London, England, United Kingdom; 2+ days per week in the designated office. Full relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

Base pay: $302,400–$453,600 USD per year; the role may also be eligible for a bonus package.

What you will do

• Lead a privacy team spanning legal, operations, compliance, and data governance.
• Design, implement, and evolve a comprehensive privacy program aligned with SIE’s data-driven business.
• Monitor global privacy laws, including GDPR, CCPA, and regional data protection requirements, and maintain compliant policies and practices.
• Embed privacy-by-design principles into products, services, and technologies in partnership with legal, product, business, and ESG stakeholders.
• Create privacy policies, notices, consent forms, vendor requirements, privacy impact assessment processes, and employee training.
• Manage privacy incident response, report program status to executives and the board, and act as a contact for regulators and customers.

Requirements

• Juris doctor degree; a bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field is also required. An advanced degree is a plus.
• 20+ years of legal experience, including 10+ years in a senior privacy leadership role, preferably as a Chief Privacy Officer or Privacy Officer in a data-driven technology company or relevant industry.
• In-depth knowledge of global privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, and other regional frameworks; broad knowledge of emerging APAC requirements is a strong plus.
• Demonstrated ability to design and implement comprehensive privacy programs aligned with industry practices, laws, regulations, and data-use requirements.
• Experience building incident response processes in partnership with a CISO or similar function and managing privacy incidents.
• Experience conducting privacy impact assessments and building scalable assessment processes.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
• Strong leadership skills and the ability to influence and drive change collaboratively.

Nice to have

• Privacy certifications such as CIPP, CIPM, CIPT, or other relevant certifications.
• Advanced degree.
• Broad knowledge of emerging APAC privacy requirements.
