Senior Director, Legal - Product Counsel

Location: Hybrid in San Mateo, California, United States, with 2+ days per week in the San Mateo office. Full relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

Base salary: $302,400–$453,600 USD, with potential bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Lead the Product Counsel function and manage a team supporting PlayStation product teams across hardware, software, and services.
• Advise product, engineering, product management, security, privacy, and legal stakeholders throughout product development, launch, and market strategy.
• Provide guidance on U.S. and international legal, regulatory, privacy, safety, online safety, and hardware compliance issues.
• Formulate global legal advice in collaboration with legal teams in Europe and Asia.
• Translate complex legal issues into clear guidance, provide pragmatic strategic and day-to-day advice, and minimize legal risks while supporting business goals.
• Manage internal projects, training, processes, procedures, communications, and cross-functional initiatives.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of progressive experience, including product counsel experience in a technology company and global leadership experience.
• JD or LLM degree from a top law school.
• Membership in a U.S. state bar is required; California State Bar membership is preferred. At minimum, qualification for and prompt obtainment of Registered In-House Counsel status in California is required, with that status maintained during employment.
• Experience advising product development, technical, business, and support teams and collaborating with designers, engineers, and product management.
• Experience leading legal advice across global markets and managing teams of legal professionals.
• Legal expertise in several areas including consumer protection, FTC or DPA regulatory actions, consumer online accounts, e-commerce and digital entertainment distribution, intellectual property, privacy, data security, social media law, content regulation, FCC regulations, and legal issues affecting consumer hardware.
• Transactional experience, strong transactional skills, comfort with technology, consumer user interfaces, consumer electronics, and connected platforms.
• Strong judgment, communication, organizational, attention-to-detail, influencing, and persuasion skills.
• Ability to work effectively across a large multinational corporation and continue learning.
