Senior Finance Business Partner, Scientific Affairs and R&D

Location: Pall Mall, London, hybrid with attendance three days per week and flexibility to attend the Cambridge office

What you will do

• Lead annual five-year budgeting and monthly rolling forecasting for the global Scientific Affairs and R&D functions, coordinating global and local finance views.
• Develop budgets and budget tracking with the Scientific Affairs Leadership Team, supporting resource prioritisation aligned with corporate strategy.
• Track global actuals versus budgets, provide monthly performance insights, explain variances, and recommend interventions for risks and opportunities.
• Prepare budget presentations for the CFO, CEO, and Chairman and support responses to in-year savings requirements.
• Support the Financial Controller of hirify.global Research Limited with month-end accruals, shared-service coordination, and year-end audit activities.
• Maintain the MRL cost allocation model, track monthly FTEs, and assess the financial impact of restructuring and FTE changes.

Requirements

• Fully qualified accountant with ACA, ACCA, or CIMA certification and at least five years of post-qualification experience; a relevant university degree and/or MBA is preferred.
• Finance experience in the pharmaceutical, life science, or medical device sector, including direct support for Scientific Affairs and/or R&D functions.
• Experience with multi-phase clinical development and understanding of products from trial through post-launch is ideal.
• Track record as an embedded finance business partner in a complex, fast-paced global matrix environment.
• Strong technical accounting expertise and hands-on experience in financial control and management.
• Exceptional written and presentation skills, including delivery of clear, high-impact budget presentations to ExCo-level stakeholders.
• Advanced critical-thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to challenge assumptions, resolve complex problems, and navigate ambiguity.
• Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities, maintain end-to-end accountability, and operate with urgency.
• Collaborative relationship-building skills, a growth mindset, and flexibility to support stakeholders and ad hoc business projects.

• Relevant university degree and/or MBA.
• Multi-phase clinical development experience and understanding of the product lifecycle from trial to post-launch.
